Healthy September Challenge

This quarter, I have been focusing on improving my health and better using my health tracker.  In July I did a personal healthy eating challenge, you can read about it HERE.

August, I continued with my healthy focus and got lots of messages that people missed my healthy eating posts.  So, in September I started doing healthy eating posts again and would love you to join me with a Healthy September Challenge.

Before the holidays are upon us, let’s develop and strengthen some healthy habits.  If you aren’t in the habit of using your health tracker, I challenge you to use it consistently.

The health tracker is designed to help with both your physical and mental energy. When either of these is compromised, your energy is compromised.

I want to talk about the Health Tracker’s “feel fab 5.”

  • This little water droplet has check boxes to help you track your water intake.  There are 8 boxes for 8 units of water.  You determine how many ounces each unit should be for you.  Currently, it is recommended that you drink half your body weight in ounces each day.  Let’s say you weigh 128 lbs, it’s recommended you drink 64 ounces a day (half of 128).  Divide that by 8 and you get 8 oz.  So, 8-8 oz glasses of water. Drinking enough water is critical to give you energy and flush out toxins.  A lot of times when you are feeling hungry, you are actually dehydrated.  An added benefit of drinking enough water can be helping you eat less, and it’s great for your skin too.
  • The heart with a check box is to check off exercise. You decide what exercise is appropriate for you.  You may need to check with a doctor.  If it is safe to do so, push yourself a little to increase your fitness level.  If you aren’t exercising at all, maybe start with a walk around the block.  If you have been exercising regularly, step it up a little.  Maybe add weights and switch up your workout and try something new.  I personally do a Zumba class 3 times a week and do something else active 3 days a week like yard work or hiking.  This quarter I want to challenge myself and start adding weights. If you want, you can write down what type of exercise you did that day in your health tracker.
  • Fruits and Vegetables. The apple with checkboxes is for fruit and vegetable servings. This is an area I really needed to improve.  Fruits and vegetable give you needed fiber and vitamins, and they are so great for you.  However, for the past several months I have been slacking off.  I was having a 7-grain cereal in the morning, maybe a sandwich at lunch, and only having some type of vegetable for dinner.  A month or so ago, my cousin did a challenge where she would have at least half her plate fruits or vegetables.  After weeks of seeing her beautiful meals, I got inspired, and this month, I have the goal of having half my meals fruits and/or vegetables.  I have been posting them with the hashtag #successchoicehealth.  I would love to challenge you to try adding more fruits and vegetables to your meals and post them with the hashtag #successchoicehealth. We call get ideas from each other.
  • Numbers 1-3 in the “feel fab 5” focus on physical health. For 4 and 5, in the customize section marked by the star icon, I like to focus on my emotional or mental health.  #4 in the feel fab 5, In the mornings I like to write down how I want to feel that day.  Maybe I want to feel focused, productive, strong, respected - depending on what is on my schedule or what I’m dealing with that day.
  • Number 5 is to write down 3 things that went well that day, things I’m grateful for. Maybe unexpected help, something kind someone said, or …

So there you have it the Success Choice Planner’s health tracker’s feel fab 5.

1 - hydrate; 2 - exercise; 3 - fruits and veggies; 4 - intention 5 - gratitude

You’ll be surprised that when you start writing down how you want to feel, you live more intentionally and step into it more.  When you write what went well during the day, you start looking for the good.  And eating healthier, hydrating properly, and moving more is a sign of personal respect and helps create more energy.  More energy means showing up better in all your pursuits. These small wins will spill over into other areas of your life.  When you are properly taking care of you, you can better help others.
