http:www.successchoicechallenge.comWhile contemplating my upcoming Success Choice Challenge Workshop, I started thinking about the line we walk between challenging ourselves and overwhelming ourselves. I thought about the tendency to fall into all-or-nothing thinking — toggling between feeling like we’re rockin’ it, or like we’re a complete failure. I think it comes down to our feelings of worth. We start down the path to accomplish something, then we experience overwhelm when we start comparing ourselves with others and assuming that what we are doing, or who we are, is not enough.
I believe we should strive to be all we can be, to push ourselves out of our comfort zone, to develop our talents and gifts, challenge ourselves; all the while accepting who we are, and not comparing ourselves to others.
Our value doesn’t change. Our potential doesn’t decrease based on our performance. It’s like a $100 dollar bill. It is still worth $100, whether it is a crisp, new bill, straight from the bank, or a crumpled, worn bill that has gone through hundreds of hands. The reality is that we are happier when we are challenging ourselves, accomplishing goals; not waiting to walk into the arena of our true potential until everything has perfectly lined up in our lives and we feel worthy or deserving.
I like this quote by Brené Brown:
“When we spend our lives waiting until we’re perfect or bulletproof before we walk into the arena, we ultimately sacrifice relationships and opportunities that may not be recoverable, we squander our precious time, and we turn our backs on our gifts, those unique contributions that only we can make.”
Your arena is different from anyone else’s arena. Don’t compare yourself to others. Discover your own arena, your own talents, gifts, and potential. Love yourself now while challenging yourself to be better.
