In small saucepan, melt butter over medium-low heat. Stir in minced garlic, lime juice, salt and pepper. Cook about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in jalapeno and cilantro.
Put salmon steaks in quart size Ziploc bag. Pour butter mixture over salmon steaks. Close bag and knead a bit to get the sauce around all the steaks. Let marinate about 15 minutes.
While the salmon steaks are marinating, preheat an outdoor grill for high heat.
Lightly oil grill grate. Place salmon steaks on grill, cook 5 minutes each side, or until fish is easily flaked with a fork.
